The Last Word is a Prohibition-era cocktail that gained renewed awareness in recent years in the hands of legendary Seattle bartender Murray Stenson. In 2007, Phil Ward, at Death & Co. in New York, came up with this simple variation, perfectly balancing the power of higher-proof bonded rye with the formidable duo of Chartreuse and maraschino liqueur. The result? Deceptively simple and gloriously complex. In a nod to the original, it involves equal measures of every ingredient.
