Try the New Basil Hayden’s Rye in These Cocktails

Basil Hayden’s—part of Beam’s Small Batch Collection—recently debuted a limited-edition rye whiskey. It’s the first line extension for the brand, whose bourbon features a high-rye mashbill. Basil Hayden’s rye consists of regular rye mixed with 4 year old rye whiskey which was dumped and re-barreled for another 7 years in newly charred quarter casks. The re-barreling process imparted a deeper, spicier flavor on the whiskey. Bottled at 40% ABV, it’s priced at $45 and available nationwide in limited amounts.

Basil Hayden’s recommends sipping the rye neat or on the rocks, as well as using it in cocktails. The brand worked with several mixologists to develop recipes using the rye as a base, from variations on classics to original creations. Basil Hayden’s Rye Cocktails

Cold brew, chocolate bitters, and an absinthe rinse round out the caramel notes of the rye whiskey.

Gentleman’s Scofflaw

A perfect way to get your daily fruit requirement, this cocktail uses peaches (fresh or frozen) and lemon juice.

Rye Whiskey Bramble

Swap in rye for gin and enjoy the clever pun found in the ingredients list (lemon juice, blackberries, and…basil).
