Apple brandy is an enjoyable substitute for whisky in many classic cocktails. Apple brandy distillers almost universally endorse the Apple Brandy Old Fashioned, and some claim it’s the true original: the oldest-fashioned Old Fashioned. However, the Jack Rose—which has nebulous origins in the early 20th century and was a Prohibition favorite—remains the spirit’s signature drink.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz. applejack or straight apple brandy
- 1 oz. lemon juice
- ½ oz. grenadine
- Cherry or apple slice
DIRECTIONS
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail or coupe glass. Garnish with a cherry or apple slice.
