Swapping in apple brandy gives a traditional Old Fashioned a fruity lift.
Put a spin on the traditional bourbon or rye Old Fashioned using another American spirit: apple brandy. "The Apple Brandy Old-Fashioned is not from New York, not from San Francisco; it's not from Los Angeles," says Joe Heron, founder of Copper & Kings. "It's the cocktail in the plaid shirt."
INGREDIENTS
- 2 oz. straight apple brandy
- 1 sugar cube
- Dash black walnut bitters
- Dash cherry bitters
- Orange twist
- Lazzaroni cocktail cherry
DIRECTIONS
Place sugar cube in bottom of Old Fashioned or rocks glass. Add dash of both bitters and a dash or two of still water. Muddle until sugar dissolves. Add one large ice cube, then add brandy and stir. Garnish with an orange twist and a Lazzaroni cocktail cherry.
