Bywater Spritz [Cocktail Recipe]

“Much like the city of New Orleans, whose Bywater District lends its name here, this Bywater Spritz is a collection of seemingly disparate ingredients which fit together in a mellow and surprising way,” says Gates Otsuji, co-founder of Swig + Swallow and regional chef de bar at The Standard in New York City. “The scotch anchors the cocktail with pear undertones, and the gin liqueur provides a gentle lift. The Sancerre dries things out a bit, while the ginger beer spikes the finish.”

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ½ oz. Glenfiddich 12 year old single malt scotch or other Speyside scotch
  • ½ oz. Greenhook Beach Plum Gin liqueur
  • ¼ oz. simple syrup
  • 1 ½ oz. Sancerre
  • 1 ½ oz. Fever-Tree ginger beer (or other ginger beer)
  • Garnish: orange slice

DIRECTIONS

Add ice cubes to a large wine glass. Follow with remaining ingredients. Insert a cocktail straw and stir briefly, then garnish with generous orange slice.
