The Battle of New Orleans [Cocktail Recipe]

This Old Fashioned variation incorporates a touch of absinthe. Created by Nick Bennett of New York City’s Porchlight, the original recipe likely debuted in Crosby Gaige’s 1940s-era “Cocktail Guide and Ladies’ Companion.”

INGREDIENTS

  • 2½ oz Elijah Craig bourbon
  • ¼ oz simple syrup
  • 1 dash absinthe
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • Garnish: lemon twist

DIRECTIONS

Build all the ingredients in a mixing glass and give a quick stir. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with a lemon twist.
