Created by Sother Teague, author of I'm Just Here for the Drinks and beverage director at New York City's Amor Y Amargo, this cocktail packs a deceptive punch.Made from kola nut, “Ramazzotti is the Dr. Pepper of the amaro world,” Teague says, because it has notes of cola, like baking spice and leather, as well as dried fruit notes—similar to the soda. Here it's combined with the subtle orange of bourbon plus herbal London dry gin. “The bitters and seltzer offer a lift that makes the drink seem less [high-alcohol] than it is,” Teague warns. “This is the type of drink that, though sophisticated in flavor, harkens back to a simpler approach to drinking.”

INGREDIENTS

• 2 dashes Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla bitters
• 1 oz. Ramazzotti amaro
• 1 oz. Evan Williams Single Barrel bourbon
• 1 oz. London dry gin
• Seltzer

DIRECTIONS

Combine first four ingredients in a Collins glass. Add ice cubes to fill. Stir with a spiraled bar spoon to chill. Pour seltzer down the spiral of the spoon to fill.
