Congrats are in order: Whisky Advocate writer and reviewer Fred Minnick has been honored for his book “Bourbon: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of an American Whiskey.” The book was named Best New Spirits Book at the 11th Annual Spirited Awards at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans on Saturday, July 22nd.
Minnick has authored several other titles including “Whiskey Women: The Untold Story of How Women Saved Bourbon, Scotch, and Irish Whiskey” and “Bourbon Curious: A Simple Tasting Guide for the Savvy Drinker.” The winning book covers the history of bourbon, from its earliest roots in the 18th century to the modern day boom. It also explores the question of who is really responsible for creating America’s national drink. This award cements the book’s place on the list of required reading for bourbon history buffs.
Minnick contributes regularly to Whisky Advocate. Some of his recent articles include this story on why you should be drinking bottled in bond whiskey; this one about the joys of wheated bourbon; and this insight into why bourbon prices have gotten higher.
